Moss is a new and functional element used as a Biophilic design for interior spaces.
Moss walls can transform a simple room into something stunning. A combination of nature with technology and design will give the space an unseen visual impact. This is not only what moss walls can offer you. They have proven scientific advantages such as:
Improved Air Quality
Moss is good at fighting air pollution. The pollutants in the rain and the air cling to the surface of the moss, and while the pollutants are stuck there, bacteria converts them into the plant’s biomass.
Less Stress
Another study performed by scientists, measured stress levels in employees at different workstations. They found that participants working in environments with plants were 12 per cent less stressed than participants working at workstations without plants.
Moisture Level Control
Moss helps stabilising moisture levels in a room and maintains the levels of humidity at between 40% and 60%. This is one of the more interesting and beneficial attributes of moss – that it can absorb moisture out of the air when humidity is high and then release it back to the air when humidity is low.
Productivity improvement
Researchers examined correlations between plants and productivity in the workplace. They created three different workspaces: one with flowers and plants, one with a sculpture, and one area with no decorative elements. Participants working in all three environments, showed more innovative thinking and solved more problems while they worked in the space that included flowers and plants.
Reduction in Airborne Dust
Since moss is colonised by bacteria that subsists on the decomposition of organic substances, it can effectively reduce airborne dust. Airborne dust can contain a variety of potentially dangerous contaminants such as aerosols from cleaners, smoke particles, chemical dust, moulds, and fumes. When people inhale airborne dust, they’re put at risk for dust-related diseases like asthma, allergic alveolitis, and cancer.
